I love to paint landscapes in watercolor. I’ve been drawn to depicting the natural world, in paints and in the words of my poetry, since I was a teenager living in New England. The medium is so organic and unpredictable that it makes portrayals of nature much more alive! If we allow the water to be itself, it creates skies and mists and snowscapes for us – but we have to trust it and get out of the way!

Lisa Lutwyche has a BFA in studio art, a BA in art history, and she received her MFA in creative writing from Goddard College in Vermont. Lisa’s full-length poetry collection, A Difficult Animal, came out in 2016 from Saddle Road Press. One of her watercolors serves as its cover. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for her poetry twice (in 2000 and in 2015). Lisa has taught creative writing and watercolor workshops in Philadelphia, Delaware, New Mexico, and also in the UK.

She spent over 20 years in architecture, and her artwork has appeared on book covers and in galleries and art events for decades. Lisa is currently an adjunct Professor of English and Humanities at Cecil College in Maryland, and lives with her British poet/actor/aero-space engineer husband in the woods of southern Chester County with their three rescued cats.

You can view these beautiful ornaments on the Bellefonte Arts community tree at Longwood Gardens, during the annual A Longwood Christmas (Nov 21, 2025 through Jan 11, 2026). Lisa has a self published book and original watercolor paintings in the Bellefonte Arts Shop.
